Do I need first aid cover?
Any event organiser has a duty of care to the public who attend their event. The Health and Safety Executive has published a guide that defines the appropriate level of cover for different events. We will be happy to discuss this with you and recommend and appropriate level of cover.
My friend has a first aid certificate can't they do it to save money?
The Health and Safety Executive specifically states that First Aid at Work certification does not qualify someone as a first aider. They must also be appropriately insured and have the necessary equipment. Any layperson considering acting as a first aider should think about the psychological effect on them should there be a fatality or major trauma. Unfortunately, as professionals, we have to face death on a regular basis and it is very upsetting to "lose" a casualty even for us.
What else do I need to consider?
For large events it is necessary to liaise with the statutory emergency services to allow them to make provisions should a major incident occur. It should also be planned where ambulances will park if they have to collect someone from the event and also to consider various other logistical issues. We will happily work with organisers and undertake some of this work on their behalf should they so wish.
How do we contact you if you are needed?
We operate licensed radios (walkie-talkies) with a range of several miles. All of our vehicles our fitted with radios. We can lend some radios to event staff to allow smooth and effective communication amongst themselves and with us.
Are you insured?
Yes, our staff our covered by public liability and malpractice insurance. Our vehicles are insured for carrying patients and blue light use.
Don't first aiders just stick on plasters?
While first aiders will deal with minor issues such as cuts and stings our staff are all trained to ambulance crew level. We have advanced first aid equipment at our disposal including patient monitoring i.e. blood pressure, pulse ox and ecg. We also have defibrillators and a supply of Oxygen and pain relieving gas called Entonox.
What training do your drivers have?
All of our drivers have received advanced driver training. This may be via a current emergency services driving qualification i.e. police or via an IAM or ROSPA test and an accredited blue light course.
Do you wear uniform?
Yes, we have a smart dark green uniform. If necessary we can dress so that we blend in at your event i.e. black tie functions. Please discuss the costs for this when booking.
How much do you charge?
Our prices are from £16 per hour depending on the cover required. Please contact us for a quote tailored to your requirements.
